Somehow I missed this

My fine university has an O.R.G.A.S.M. lab. (It’s a clever acronym for Observations and Research in Gender and Sexuality Matters.) Its director and principal investigator, Cory Pedersen, is a really sharp person and a beloved professor and mentor. Here’s a short article published today describing research the lab did on inferences people make regarding body shape and sexual traits.

My sentence

The nun died before I could get even.

The good sigh

“We realize we have made a friend when in a relationship we are able to suppress that special disappointment which follows getting to know him, her, anyone – even oneself – well,” wrote my old University at Buffalo professor Lionel Abel. It is sweet to remember those first resigned sighs, from my loyal friends. The essence of friendship is neither correction nor therapy.

When can I see them again?

I remember, as a young man I was hitchhiking to the West Coast. A fellow dropped me off at a rest stop in Ohio. I asked a man at the rest stop how far it was to Chicago.

He said, ‘All the way there.’

All we can do is make sure the car has gas and we are heading in the right direction. Nothing will bring the destinations any closer to us.

May 10: This is what I meant.

Break between semesters coming up

Except for a day or two of correspondence, my break starts tomorrow, which means I have four weeks to fill with something besides going to jail. I need to find something more than just playing with a new pair of Nikon binoculars. Ballroom dancing seems to be impossible at present.
